Gmail - Configure Android

This tutorial demonstrates how to configure an Android device for CU-Boulder's Gmail.

*Note: Due to the numerous variations of Android phones, the following instructions may not work for older versions of Androids. Please refer to IMAP Connection Settings below if you are experiencing issues connecting your account.

This tutorial applies to the following operating system(s):

IMAP Connection Settings

Incoming Server Settings

  • Server:
  • Authentication: SSL
  • Port: 993
  • User Name:
  • Password: Identikey password

Outgoing Server Settings

  • Server:
  • Authentication: STARTTLS
  • Port: 587
  • User Name:
  • Password: Identikey password


Step 1

From Home, tap the Settings button.

Step 2

Tap Accounts (for some devices, this may called Accounts & Sync).

Step 3

Tap Add Account.

Step 4

Tap Email.

Step 5

Enter your full email address (, then tap Next.

Step 6

Tap Personal (IMAP).

Step 7

Enter your IdentiKey password, then tap Next.

Step 8

Enter the following for the Incoming Server Settings, then tap Next:

  • Server:
  • Port: 993
  • Security type: SSL/TLS


Step 9

Enter the following for the Outgoing Server Settings, then tap Next:

  • Server:
  • Port: 587
  • Security type: STARTTLS

*Note: Double check that the username is prior to tapping Next.

Step 10

Choose your Account options, then tap Next.

Step 11

Name your account if desired, then tap Next.

Step 12

Your account will be configured and can be accessed from the Email application.
