Exchange - Configuration for Thunderbird on Mac Clients Already in Use

Overview

These instructions for people who are already using Thunderbird for Mac, and want to configure their program to access an Exchange account.

This tutorial applies to the following operating system(s):
  • MAC

Quick Start

If you already know how to configure Thunderbird for Mac, use the specifications below to configure for OIT's Exchange service.

  • Incoming Mail Server
    • Type: IMAP
    • Host: exchangeimap.colorado.edu
      • SSL/TLS
      • Authentication: Normal Password
    • User name: your CU Login name
    • Password: your IdentiKey password
  • Outgoing Mail Server
    • Type: SMTP
    • Host: smtp.colorado.edu
      • STARTTLS
      • Authentication: Normal Password
    • User name: your CU Login name
    • Password: your IdentiKey password

Step 1

Click the File menu, and choose New from the drop-down menu. Select Existing Mail Account... as seen to the left.

A Mail Account Setup window will open.

  1. In the Full Name: text section, type in your full name.
  2. In the Email Address: text field, enter your first.last@colorado.edu email.
  3. Enter your IdentiKey password in the Password: text field and then click Continue.

Click the Manual config button.

Step 4

Make the following changes, then click Re-test:

  1. Incoming:
    • Server hostname: exchangeimap.colorado.edu
    • SSL: SSL/TLS
  2. Outgoing:
    • Server hostname: smtp.colorado.edu
    • SSL: STARTTLS
  3. Username:

Change the Authentication in the Incoming settings to Normal Password, then click Done.

Exchange is now setup, and you will be able to see mail and folders you have in your Exchange account.
