Exchange - Configuration for First Time Outlook 2013 Use

Outlook 2013 and OIT's Exchange service go hand in hand. Outlook 2013 is part of the Office 2013 productivity suite, which can be acquired through CU-Boulder's Microsoft Campus Agreement.

Exchange Online Migration

Starting February 2015, campus units and departments began being migrated to Exchange Online, on an individual basis. If your department has been migrated, please visit the Exchange Online service area for more information.

Quick Start

Exchange configuration settings

If you already know how to configure Outlook 2013, use the specifications below to configure for OIT's Exchange service.

  • Exchange Server:
    • SSL Enabled
    • Authentication: Password
    • Port: 993
  • User name: your CU Login name
  • Password: your IdentiKey password
  • Login requires: AD\username
  • Proxy Server
    • SSL Enabled
    • Principle name:
  • Check both "on slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using tcp/ip)" and "on fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using tcp/ip)"

Step 1

Launch Outlook 2013. A setup wizard will appear. Click Next

Step 2

Choose Yes and click Next.

Step 3

Check the Manually configure server settings or additional server types box. Then click Next.

Step 4

Select the Microsoft Exchange option, then click Next.

Step 5

In the Microsoft Exchange server: text field, enter for the server name. In the User Name: text field, enter your CU Login Name login. Click the More Settings... button.

Step 6

Click on the Security tab. Click the Always prompt for logon credentials box. This should be deselected after the account has been verified/validated.

Note: Only required if setting up Outlook 2013 64 bit.

Step 7

Click on the Connection tab. Click the Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP box.

Step 8

Click the Exchange Proxy Settings... button.

Step 9

In the https:// text field enter Click the Connect using SSL only check box.

Step 10

Click the Only connect to proxy servers that have this principal name in their certificate: check box. In the text field beneath the check box type Check mark both On fast networks and On slow networks.

Step 11

Be sure that the NTLM Authentication has been chosen. Click OK.

Step 12

An alert window will pop up. Click the OK button. You do not need to restart Outlook yet.

Step 13

Click the Check Name button.

Note: When the Check Names button is pressed, the server name may change from to exc1 or exc3, this is normal and does not impact the rest of the setup.

Step 14

In the User name: field type in ad\ then your CU Login Name. In the Password: field, type in your IdentiKey password. Click the OK button.

Step 15

Click the Finish button to finish setting up your exchange account.
