D2L - Import/Export Course Contents and Components

Overview

The following documentation will demonstrate the process of importing and exporting course contents. Click one of the links below to jump to a section:

*Note: If you want to copy course contents from one D2L course to another, please visit the Copy Content Between Courses tutorial.

This tutorial is operating system independent.

Step 1

Import Course Contents

Log into your course and click Edit Course on the navigation menu.

Step 2

Click Import / Export / Copy Components.

Step 3

Select the Import Components radio button.

Step 4

Select Choose File or Browse depending on browser.

Step 5

Locate your desired file and click Open.

Step 6

Once your file loads, click Start.

Step 7

Wait for the file to complete its preprocessing and then click Continue.

Step 8

In the Select Course Material screen, select whether you would like to overwrite existing files, if necessary.

Step 9

Select which items you would like to import (if multiple files exist in the uploaded file) and then click Continue.

*Note: If importing another D2L course, it is best not to import Navigation items. The importation will fail for this and the items after due to D2L's inability to overwrite the active navigation bar.

Step 10

Double check the components to import and then click Continue.

Step 11

Wait for the files to import and then click Next.

Step 12

You should then see a message detailing that the import was succesful.

Step 13

Export a Course

Click on the Import / Export / Copy Components link, from Edit Course (steps 1-2).

Step 14

Select the Export Components radio button and make sure the Include course files in the export package box is checked.

Step 15

Click Start.

Step 16

Select the course material you wish to export and then click Continue.

Step 17

Confirm that these are the components you wish to export and click Continue.

Step 18

Wait for the components to export.

Step 19

Click Finish.

Step 20

Click the Click here to download the export Zip package link and the file will download to your default download location.
