After Java version 7 update 51, Oracle has introduced the Exception Site List feature in Java preferences, so a user can allow Java to load a from a URL that is not from a trusted developer. The steps below demonstrate this for both Windows and Macintosh.
Open System Preferences (Mac) or Control Panel (Windows).
Click Java, then a new window will appear.
Click the Security tab.
Click the Edit Site List… button.
Click Add, then type the URL for the site for which you wish to make an exception.
*Note: To allow Network Connect to launch from your browser, add https://cuvpn.colorado.edu to the list.
Click Ok and the site will now be in the exception list.
