Visibility into IT Service Cases

An update to ServiceNow, the campus IT service management tool, now allows customers to view their current and old cases, as well as directly update their open cases. The ServiceNow notifications that are sent to customers about their cases now include a link which, after logging in to ServiceNow, will take them directly to their case.

i>clicker Registration Change Will Require Instructor and Student Updates

Starting with this fall 2014 semester, our campus will utilize the national registration database hosted by i>clicker for clicker registration and discontinue hosting the local i>clicker registration database. This change will require that students register their clickers with the national registration database, using their IdentiKey, and that instructors update to the latest version of i>clicker software.

IT Service Center Returning to Regular Operating Hours

The IT Service Center’s hours will return to regular operating hours beginning Monday, August 18 to accommodate the arrival of students for fall semester.

Fall Semester Hours: Beginning August 18
Call-in help: 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. on weekdays; noon - 6:00 p.m. on weekends
Walk-in help: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on weekdays

Getting Ready for the Fall Semester in Desire2Learn

With summer winding down, it's time to prepare for your fall courses. If you're planning on using Desire2Learn, we have some helpful tips to ease you into the new school year:

Classroom Media Cabinets No Longer Require Keys

Over the summer all media cabinet locks were removed in all centrally-scheduled teaching spaces. As a result, instructors will no longer need a key to access classroom media. Cables that are connected to the digital projection displays (LCDs or data projectors) are still in place but are now locked down differently. Additional items stored in the cabinets, such as remotes and microphones, will still be be stored in the existing cabinet spaces.

D2L Improvements Coming August 16

In preparation for the start of the 2014 - 2015 Academic Year, Desire2Learn (D2L), CU-Boulder’s online learning environment, will undergo an upgrade on Saturday, August 16. This upgrade will make the service unavailable from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 16.

In contrast to major upgrades performed in the past, this upgrade does not involve changes to the look and feel or include significant changes to tool functionality. Rather this upgrade includes improvements to the usability and added functionality that will enhance instructor and student experiences.

Adobe Connect to be Retired August 15

The Office of Information Technology's Adobe Connect service will be retired on August 15 due to low usage rates. We are pleased to announce Zoom Web Conferencing as its replacement. Learn more at OIT's Zoom website.

As a part of this retirement, Adobe Connect will be disabled in Desire2Learn on August 15. To learn more about how to use Zoom with Desire2Learn please visit the tutorial, D2L - Add a Zoom Web Conference Link.

Voicemail Change Requires Your Action

CU-Boulder is moving to a new voicemail system as part of a larger project to replace the campus’ aging telephone and voicemail systems with a new Cisco Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Unified Communications system. On the evening of Wednesday, July 23, campus voicemail services will be transitioned from the current system to a new Cisco voicemail system. The move to Cisco voicemail will require you to set a new password and record new voicemail greetings before you can retrieve new messages.

Zoom Web Conferencing Now Available

Over the last few months, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) has been evaluating a new web conferencing service to replace Adobe Connect, a service scheduled to be retired this summer due to low usage rates. We are pleased to announce that Zoom will replace it. Zoom is a web conferencing tool that unifies cloud video conferencing, online meetings, and collaboration into a single intuitive platform.

Colorado Learning and Teaching with Technology Conference August 6 & 7, 2014

We are very pleased to announce the COLTT 2014 keynote speaker: Steven Pollock, a U.S. Carnegie Professor of the Year for 2013 and Professor of Physics at CU-Boulder. The Carnegie Foundation honored Professor Pollock by recognizing his national reputation as an educator of excellence whose work is transforming physics education.

New Telephone and Voice Messaging System Coming to CU-Boulder

The Office of Information Technology is embarking upon a large-scale project to replace CU-Boulder’s aging telephone and voice messaging systems with a new Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Unified Communications (UC) system. The new system will no longer use the existing network of copper wires that are dedicated solely to telephone services, and instead will carry telephone calls over the existing campus data network.

Licensing for Adobe Software

Adobe’s shift to a Creative Cloud subscription model has changed how licenses for Adobe products are acquired. The move to Creative Cloud is a universal change that affects all Adobe customers and here is a rundown of how you can now purchase Adobe products on the CU-Boulder campus.

July Fourth Weekend: IT Help During Campus Holidays

Pleae Note: The IT Service Center will be open from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, July 5 & 6.

Our campus is constantly under attack by a barrage of attempts to steal personal information, often referred to as phishing. Often these attacks come during holidays when campus IT support is unavailable. Even when you can’t contact the IT Service Center there are still clues and resources to help you figure out if an email is legitimate or a phishing attempt.
