AutoCAD is a CAD (Computer Aided Design or Computer Aided Drafting) software application for 2D and 3D design and drafting. It is developed and sold by Autodesk Inc., along with related products like Revit, MEP, and 3ds Max Design.
Licensing is available for AutoCAD and associated Autodesk products like Revit, Civil 3D, Raster Design, and 3ds Max Design.
As of summer 2014, Autodesk products are being provided to the university for free for instructional use.
Use for building, housing, physical plant, and facilities management are excluded from using the free licenses.
The free licensing of Autodesk software products is offered to faculty and students on personal computers for academic purposes only, and to academic departments on all university-owned computers.
Faculty and students can download AutoCAD, Revit, and other Autodesk products to their own computers from the Autodesk website http://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/all.
For labs, computer clusters and other multi-computer deployments in academic departments, choose "Software for Institutions" from the Autodesk site, or contact the Site Licensing office for assistance, at 303-492-8995, email@example.com.
