The ESRI software product ArcGIS Desktop includes ArcInfo, ArcEditor and ArcView, and is the premier GIS product for not only viewing maps but for transforming, analyzing, manipulating and modeling geographic data.
Instructors may request free 1-year licenses for students taking GIS-related courses or programs. And for anyone using ArcGIS 9.3 or higher, free online ESRI Virtual Campus courses are available. Faculty, students and staff can send requests for Virtual Campus access codes (or information) to email@example.com.
Esri provides a set of current demographic data, including Census 2010 data. If not available from your departmental office, request from firstname.lastname@example.org. Also, GIS users at CU can share their expertise and questions via the Geospatial Email Forum.
The site license for ArcGIS software is provided as a Common Good to CU-Boulder faculty and staff (including student employees); no direct fees are involved for the 2012-2013 academic year.
ESRI licenses (via our site license) are available to faculty and staff at CU-Boulder, on university-owned computers and (for use in education and research only) on personal computers.
