Overview 

The ESRI software product ArcGIS Desktop includes ArcInfo, ArcEditor and ArcView, and is the premier GIS product for not only viewing maps but for transforming, analyzing, manipulating and modeling geographic data.

  • ArcGIS for Desktop is available for Windows
  • Includes Advanced (ArcInfo) features and extensions including 3D Analyst and Spatial Analyst

Also:

Instructors may request free 1-year licenses for students taking GIS-related courses or programs. And for anyone using ArcGIS 9.3 or higher, free online ESRI Virtual Campus courses are available. Faculty, students and staff can send requests for Virtual Campus access codes (or information) to sitelic@colorado.edu.

Esri provides a set of current demographic data, including Census 2010 data. If not available from your departmental office, request from sitelic@colorado.edu. Also, GIS users at CU can share their expertise and questions via the Geospatial Email Forum.

Cost 

The site license for ArcGIS software is provided as a Common Good to CU-Boulder faculty and staff (including student employees); no direct fees are involved for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Who can get it 

ESRI licenses (via our site license) are available to faculty and staff at CU-Boulder, on university-owned computers and (for use in education and research only) on personal computers.

How to get it 
  • For ArcGIS Desktop 10.1, request download and licensing information from sitelic@colorado.edu:
  • For ArcGIS 9.3, send the following information about your computer to sitelic@colorado.edu: model, OS version, hostname, host ID.

Send tech support questions to sitelic@colorado.edu, and include the OS version, ESRI product version, details of the problem, commands used, error messages, etc.
