In 2007, Colorado Governor Bill Ritter signed an Executive Order directing all state agencies to reduce energy use 20 percent below 2006 levels by 2012.
The university’s more than 25,000 desktops, laptops and monitors use 4 to 5 percent of total campus electricity, costing about $1.25 million per year and creating 6,300 tons of CO2. A lot of this energy use is unproductive and could be eliminated with proper power management and equipment use.
