Last Updated: 10/19/2012

Overview

There are many types of questions in the Desire2Learn survey creator. The information on this page will aid you in creating questions for a survey. To learn more about how to create a survey please visit the Create a Survey tutorial.

Common Features of all Question Types

  • All question types have an optional Title field. If you do not enter a title, the system will take the full question text and enter it as the title. The title is only displayed in the quiz tool and not to users taking the quiz.
  • Many question types give you the option of inserting an image. Click the Add a File button beside the Image field to insert an image.
  • If you want question feedback displayed to the users, enter your feedback in the Question Feedback area.
  • You have access to the preview, and spell-check features in each question text field. Click Preview to view your question as it will appear during use and grading. Click Save to save the question and return to the main page, Save and Copy to save the question and create a new question of the same type and that retains the copied properties, or click Save and New to continue creating questions of the same type.

Likert Question

The Likert question type is available only when creating a survey in Desire2Learn. Create Likert (LIK) questions to measure subjective information such as personal opinions, knowledge, abilities, and attitudes. Likert questions enable you to create surveys that evaluate the intensity of respondents' feelings towards statements presented to them.

The following are the seven measurement scales offered for Likert questions:

  • One to Five (1 to 5)
  • One to Eight (1 to 8)
  • Agreement Scale (Disagree–Agree)
  • Satisfaction Scale (Dissatisfied–Satisfied)
  • Frequency Scale (Never–Always)
  • Importance Scale (Unimportant–Important)
  • Opposition Scale (Oppose–Support)

Refer to this process below when creating Likert questions:

  1. Enter text into the Introductory Text: field.
  2. Choose the Scale type (listed above)
  3. Choose if you would like a N/A option
  4. Enter a statement in each Value field. You can click Add Option and select the number of additional statements you want to include in your LIK question.
    • Note: Each Value will represent a different topic to be rated in the chosen scale.
  5. If you wish you may enter feedback for each individual answer.
