D2L - Editing the .CSV File Received from the TAC for Upload

Overview

It may sometimes be required to edit the .CSV file received from the Testing and Assessment Center (TAC) in order to upload it into a Desire2Learn gradebook. Please consult the instructions below when editting the TAC file.

*Note: This process can be quite confusing. If you are having trouble uploading/editing the .CSV please contact your Academic Technology Consultant.

Instructions

With a few edits, you can upload the .CSV file you receive from the Testing and Assessment Center (TAC) to your Desire2Learn grade book. The first step in this process is reformatting the .CSV.

  1. Open the .csv file in your spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel).
  2. Delete all unnecessary rows and columns. The columns that remain should be the SID column and the column containing the student exam grades.
  3. Rename the SID column to “OrgDefinedId”.
  4. Add the words “Points Grades” after the name of the column with student’s grades. For example, if the grades were in a column called Test 1, rename the column “Test 1 Points Grade”.
  5. Add a column called “End-of-Line Indicator”.
  6. Place a # sign in this column to the right of every student’s grade. To do this:
  7. Place your cursor to the bottom right corner of the cell with the formula until a cross appears.
  8. Double click your left mouse button. The # sign should be added every cell in the column.
