The course homepage is the first page that you see when you enter your course. The typical course homepage is a page comprised of widgets that provide information and links to tools, courses, and personal settings. Your course homepage can also be set as a Desire2Learn Learning Environment tool, such as News or Content, or even as an external URL.
When your course is first created, the homepage view will be set to default. The default homepage consists of the widgets: Content Browser, My Settings, News, Updates, and Calendar. The course default homepage settings cannot be customized. To have a customizable homepage you need to create your own homepage. To do this one can simply:
An essential part of a course homepage is the news widget. The news widget allows for you to give instructions and update your students on course announcements form their initial course page. To learn more on how to use the news tool visit the News Tool page.
Widgets are the different sections that make up a homepage. Every item that is displayed on your course homepage is displayed through a widget of some kind. Desire2Learn comes with many standard widgets, and if you are not finding a widget to fit your needs, Desire2Learn allows for the creation of custom widgets.
