Antivirus - Sophos Endpoint Protection for Macintosh

Overview

OIT recommends the use of Sophos software for university-purchased Macintosh computers.

Installation and Configuration Before installing Sophos, other antivirus software must be uninstalled. To install Sophos, please refer to the documentation below.

Download and Install Sophos:

Before downloading and installing Sophos, you must first uninstall other antivirus software you may have on your Macintosh. Here are instructions for uninstalling former university-recommended antivirus software:

Install Sophos

  1. Go to https://cuservices.colorado.edu/sitelicenses/download/SophosAntiVirus.mpkg.zip
  2. Log in with your CU Login Name and IdentiKey password.
  3. The file will download.
  4. Install Sophos Antivirus for Mac (tutorial).

*Note: Updates to the CU-Boulder provided Sophos software require an on campus connection to install. Off campus users can connect to the campus network by using the campus VPN service.

IMPORTANT NOTE

If you are using Mac OS 10.8 (Mountain Lion) you need to temporarily adjust settings in order to install Sophos or you will recieve an error message. In order to bypass this error message:

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Click Security and Privacy
  3. Click the lock to make changes and enter your username and password.
  4. Within the General section select Anywhere.

Once you have installed Sophos, be sure to readjust this setting to be Mac App Store and identified developers.
