Exchange - Storage Space

Last Updated: 10/05/2011

Storage Space (Quota)

Standard Exchange accounts include 1GB of storage space for e-mail, calendar entries, tasks, and notes. To request additional storage space contact the IT Service Center at (303) 735-HELP or e-mail help@colorado.edu. OIT provides Exchange quota increases in 500 MB increments, up to a 2GB maximum.

You can check your quota by logging in with your IdentiKey at https://exchangequota.colorado.edu/.

Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2007 users can also check their current quota usage by following these steps:

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Click the Mail button on the navigation pane (if you are not viewing your mail already).
  3. Select the Tools drop-down menu.
  4. Select the Mailbox Cleanup option.
  5. Click on the View Mailbox Size button.

Here you will see the total size of your mailbox as well as a break-down of your mailbox by folder and size.  Please note that this read-out is in kilobytes and your 1GB quota is approximately 1,000,000KB.

Request More Space in 500MB Increments

  • Exchange account holders can request more storage in 500MB increments.
  • For any 500MB increment request that pushes your account past 2GB, send a message to help@colorado.edu with a business justification for needing that much space. Your request will be reviewed by OIT management.
  • To make a request, contact the IT Service Center and ask for a 500MB increase in quota for your Exchange account.

Message Size Limitations

Messages sent from your Exchange account are limited to 50MB a message.
