Voice Conferencing

Overview

A voice conference, or teleconference, is a multi-point conversation using a telephone, and has only auditory capabilities. OIT provides many options for voice conferencing at CU-Boulder.

CU-Boulder Provided Services

Conference calling on a Single Line Avaya Desk or Wall phone set

Single line Avaya desk or wall phones allow for conference calls of up to 3 parties. To add a third party to a call:

  1. Flash the switch hook or press flash.
  2. You will receive dial tone.
  3. Present caller is put on hold.
  4. Dial number of new party and wait for answer.
  5. Once the new party answers, you may talk privately before adding them to the conference call.
  6. Flash the switch hook or press flash.
  7. The third party is connected.
  8. If you do not receive an answer or the number is busy, hang up the handset and wait for the telephone to ring to return to the caller on hold.
  9. To Drop the Last Party Added to a Conference, press Flash.
  10. You will remain connected to the original party.

Conferencing on a Multi-Line Avaya 8410 or 8434 Phone

Single line Avaya desk or wall phones allow for conference calls of up to 6 parties. To add another party to a call:

  1. While on the call press the CONF button
  2. You will receive dial tone.
  3. The present call is put on hold.
  4. Dial the number of the person you wish to conference with and wait for them to answer.
  5. Once they answer, press the CONF button again.
  6. Repeat for up to a total of 6 parties.
  7. To drop a call added to the conference, press the DROP button and this will drop callers in the    reverse order that they were added.

Seminar-Style Teleconference

  • If you would like to hold a seminar-style teleconference, OIT has a seminar room with a teleconferencing unit. Learn more about Stadium 192.  

Cost

Stadium 192 conferencing is provided as a common-good to the campus which means there is no direct cost to you or your department.

*Note: Long distance services have an associated cost.
