Academic Technology Design Team - User Experience Research and Design

Last Updated: 12/14/2016

The User Experience Research and Design team gathers and analyzes data from students, faculty, and staff and makes design recommendations on efforts that impact student success.

The services our team provides include:

  • Collecting data about the student experience by designing and conducting user-experience activities and assessments (e.g., usability testings, focus groups, surveys, heuristics evaluations, card sorts, observational studies, etc…) as part of a discovery phase for efforts that impact student success.
  • Identifying user needs, pain points, and goals.
  • Working with analytics experts to translate large-data set into insights.
  • Developing user personas, scenarios, and journey maps.
  • Analyzing and reporting on the findings from the user-experience activities and assessments.
  • Making design recommendations, proposing design principles, collaborating with project team on designing and testing wireframes.
  • Designing visuals that represent the user experience

User Experience Internship Program

To scale this service, we have implemented a User Experience Internship Program. The provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to learn and develop valuable user experience skills and apply them to real efforts that impact student success on the CU Boulder campus. More information about the program can be found on the User Experience Internship Program page.
