Description

In preparation for the replacement of the router at the Computing Center data center, Network Operations will be moving network connections from the current router to new switches over the coming weeks. As connections are moved, there may be service impacts. A schedule of network connection moves is detailed in the next section.

Impact

Below is a list of scheduled connection moves, and their planned impacts (if any) on services. This timeline will be updated as new connection moves are scheduled. We recommend that you check back frequently for updates.

Note: Scheduled moves highlighted in green have been added since this service alert was originally published.

Monday, July 22

  • 6:00 p.m., ATS Labs Macintosh Servers

Tuesday, July 23

  • 7:00 a.m., Black Box Financial Transaction Processor. Impact: During move, files cannot be deposited in drop boxes.
  • 7:00 a.m., Study Abroad (resides on Snert server). Impact: During move, the Study Abroad application will be unable to get updated user information.

Wednesday, July 24

  • 5:45 a.m., Drupal & F5. Impact: Users accessing any of the following sites may experience transient problems during the move: www.colorado.edu, fedauth.colorado.edu, cucontent.colorado.edu, and mycuboulder.colorado.edu.
  • 7:30 a.m., Domain Name System server (Otis). Impact: None expected.

Thursday, July 25

  • 7:30 a.m., Active Directory. Impact: None expected.

Monday, July 29

  • 5:00 p.m., Secondary Kerberos (IdentiKey) Server. Impact: None expected.

Tuesday, July 30

  • 5:30 - 7:00 a.m., Microsoft Exchange. Impact: None expected
  • Afternoon, LDAP (authentication server). Impact: None expected.

Wednesday, July 31

  • 6:00 - 7:00 a.m., Mail Routing. Impact: None expected.
  • CUAccess. Impact: Users connected at the time of the move may lose their connection and need to reload.
  • WEBAPPS. Impact: Users connected at the time of the move may lose their connection and need to reload.
  • uniquid. Impact: Momentarily unavailable.

Thursday, August 1

  • CUAccess. Impact: Users connected at the time of the move may lose their connection and need to reload.
  • WEBAPPS. Impact: Users connected at the time of the move may lose their connection and need to reload.
  • 3:00 p.m., HANFS (backend file system for www.colorado.edu). Impact: None expected.

Tuesday, August 6

  • 6:00 a.m., VPN (Juniper and Cisco). Impact: Potential for brief disruption in VPN access.

Wednesday, August 7

  • 1:30 - 3:30 p.m., CULink. Impact: During move, users will be unable to access CULink.

Scope

Network Operations is pursuing a three-phase approach to a network infrastructure upgrade that will improve reliability and growth capacity within the OIT data center. The first phase, detailed in this service alert, consists of a series of network connection moves. More details and expected impacts of all phases will be provided as information becomes available.
