VoIP Unified Communications Project

The Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Unified Communications project will replace the University’s existing Avaya telephone and voice messaging systems with a new Cisco VoIP Unified Communications (UC) system. This system encompasses telephone, call center, voice messaging, email integration, and other current technologies.

Customer Benefit

  • New Cisco VoIP telephones with current features including call logs, contact lists, and campus directories
  • Delivery of voicemail messages (as audio files) via email, as well as traditional voicemail delivery
  • Higher reliability of services by replacing aging unsupported systems with current duplicated High Availability systems.

Project Timeline

This is a tentative timeline that could change depending upon barriers encountered during deployment, testing, and migration.

  • Pilot rollout of telephone equipment and Unified Communications capabilities: Mid-January, 2015
  • Rollout of phone equipment and new technologies to campus: After testing is complete, general rollout of the VoIP phones will take place on a building-by-building basis and is anticipated to take 18 to 24 months to complete.
