Cisco VPN - Launch with UAC Enabled

Overview

There are three options for using the VPN with a UAC each of which is explained below. The first four steps explain how to get to the VPN folder, where each process begins.

Click on Computer from the Start menu.

Open your computer's Hard Disk Drive (C:).

Open your Program Files (x86) folder.

Open the folder labeled CU Boulder.

Change the Compatibility

Open the VPN Client folder.

Locate vpngui and right-click on it then select Properties.

Click on the Compatibility tab and check the Run this program in compatibility mode for: box

Select Windows XP (Service Pack 2) from the drop down menu then select Apply.

Change to Administrator Access

Open the VPN Client folder.

*Note: Administrator access is needed for this process.

Locate vpngui and right-click on it then select Properties.

Click on the Compatibility tab and select the Run this program as an administrator box.

Click Apply.

Give Full Control to the Cisco VPN Folder and Subdirectories

Right click on the VPN Client folder and select Properties.

Select the Security tab and click on the Advanced button.

Click on Change Permissions (or Edit...)  for the Users group.

If the Users group does not have Full Control, select the Users group and then click Edit...

*Note: Make sure the Include inheriable permissions from this object’s parent box is checked.

Check the Full Control box in the Allow column, then click OK.
