Laptop Registration

Overview

Do you have laptop protection? Make your laptop a less inviting target by registering it with CU-Boulder.

If you’re like most people, your laptop is an indispensable tool in your teaching, learning or research endeavors. Having your laptop and all the information on it stolen would be a huge setback. This is why the CU-Boulder offers laptop registration.

Registering your laptop can be an important step in preventing victimization. Registration stickers often act as a deterrent, making the item difficult to pawn or sell quickly. Information obtained during registration, such as make, model and serial number, also make it easier for police to identify recovered items and return them to their proper owners.

CU-Boulder, in partnership with the Boulder Police Department, offers a laptop computer registration program that is quick, easy and free. Owners must bring their laptops to the registration site so that the computer can be marked with a tamper-resistant sticker. Although hundreds of laptop computers have been stolen in Boulder over the past several years, to date, no registered laptops have been reported stolen.

Laptop computer registration is available at the following locations:

  • University of Colorado Boulder Technology Learning Center (see map), 1045 18th Street, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Pearl Street CPC, 1500 Pearl St. - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
