| SUBJECT: | Effective June 21, Information Technology Services, or ITS, will be known as the Office of Information Technology, or OIT |
Since my arrival a little over a year-and-a-half ago I have focused on transforming Information Technology Services (ITS) into a more accountable, collaborative, and service-oriented organization. With the help of a campuswide IT strategic planning process, a comprehensive program review, a reorganization and reinvigoration of the IT governance structure, and thankfully with your willingness to engage as a campus community interested in making IT better, we are making positive steps toward achieving these goals.
In recent months ITS has made a number of individualized future-oriented changes and is positioned to make a number of positive systemic changes in the coming year and beyond in the areas of: academic technology, research computing, administrative computing, and core infrastructure. Perhaps most importantly, there will be reorganized and re-conceptualized support services, provided equitably across the campus, with a focus on being close to and fulfilling your needs versus following service provision rules. With all of this, plus the new campus branding effort and the planned launch of a new OIT website in late June, now is the right time to symbolically break with the past, put aside the name ITS, and move forward as the Office of Information Technology.
This name change is intended to more closely associate ITS with my position and office, and to connote that we are working toward an integrated continuum of IT services across the campus. The new name is meant to acknowledge the partnership of all Boulder campus IT service providers working together to enable effective and innovative uses of information technology in support of the campus mission.
Changing the name of an organization has wide-ranging impacts and involves a lot of details. Before the start of the new academic year, the staff of OIT will be working to update all references to ITS. If you have questions specifically about the details and logistics of this name change, please contact PR and Communication Manager Greg Stauffer at greg.stauffer@colorado.edu or 303-735-1608.
If you have any questions about the substantive nature of this change, or about how the IT needs of the campus are being served, please contact me at larry.levine@colorado.edu or call 303-492-4691.
Thank you.
