Make Your Content Connect with Captions

Submitted by stauffeg on

As part of CU Boulder’s commitment to fostering an accessible campus environment, OIT recently launched a captioning service which will assist faculty and staff in getting video or audio content captioned or transcribed to meet the new CU Boulder Campus Standards for the Accessibility of Information and Communication Technology Policy (PDF).

Captions are invaluable to ensuring that all students have equal access to materials required for success in their coursework, as well as making public video content accessible to all students, staff, faculty, and visitors to the university.

If you caption any material yourself, please refer to OIT’s captioning best practices checklist (PDF) and feel free to reach out to the captioning service for assistance and training related to DIY captioning. While there are limited resources for requests unrelated to student accommodations, in certain circumstances the captioning service will be able to arrange and pay for captioning.

For more information about using the captioning service, please visit the OIT captioning website. To request captioning assistance or receive further guidance on captioning policy, please contact the IT Service Center at help@colorado.edu or call 303-735-4357 (5-HELP from a campus phone).
