i>clicker Registration Change Requires Instructor and Student Updates

Last Updated: 09/12/2014

This fall our campus began utilizing the national registration database hosted by i>clicker for clicker registration and has discontinued hosting a local i>clicker registration database. This change requires that students register their clickers with the national registration database, using their IdentiKey username, and that instructors update to the latest version of i>clicker software. Utilizing the national registration database will make updating i>clicker software easier, and allow the Office of Information Technology (OIT) to enhance the quality of the i>clicker service, in particular integrating i>clicker with Desire2Learn. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause initially in order to gain these benefits.

Students: Register Your i>clicker

Registering your i>clicker is quick and simple:

  1. Login to mycuinfo.colorado.edu.
  2. Click on the “Student” tab.
  3. Click on the “CUClicker Registration” button.
  4. You will be taken to the i>clicker registration page.
  5. If not already filled out, enter your IdentiKey username where prompted for your student ID. Also enter your first and last name, and your i>clicker's Remote ID where prompted.  Finally, complete the Captcha image code.
  6. After filling in all the information, click the “Register” button.

Please note: It is imperative that you use your IdentiKey username and NOT your Student ID (as the i>clicker registration page suggests). i>clicker purges the registration database annually, so it will be necessary for you to re-register every August before school starts. We have posted step-by-step instructions for registering your i>clicker, along with screen captures, on the i>clicker Remote Registration page.

Instructors: Update to the Latest Version of i>clicker

Because previous versions of the campus i>clicker software queried the locally hosted database, faculty will need to make sure they update to the latest version of i>clicker software, which will query the national database, before using i>clicker in the classroom. OIT will continue to provide the best and most reliable version of i>clicker from our i>clicker download site. Currently we are supporting v6.4.1 for Mac and PC. Previous versions of the software will not work with the national registration database; please delete them.

As you head into the new academic year, we recommend that instructors follow these steps to  minimize any potential problems with i>clickers:

  1. Download a copy of i>clicker from our website.
  2. Check your classroom frequency assignment.
  3. If you need a semester kit, including a base station and two i>clicker remotes, use our receiver check-out webform.
  4. Please make sure your i>clicker receiver has a blue sticker. This indicates that the receiver has the newest firmware which is necessary for compatibility with the campus iclicker service and to record student data. To return your old iclicker receiver and get a new one, please contact the IT Service Center.
  5. Remember to download your course roster from mycuinfo.colorado.edu, or from learn.colorado.edu if you are using D2L. Here are instructions to export a Desire2Learn grade book as a roster that can be used with i>clicker software.
  6. It is always a good idea to download your roster before school starts, but then again after the add period, after the withdrawal period, and one final time before you complete your final grades.

If you require assistance with registering your i>clicker, or just have questions about i>clicker in general, please contact the IT Service Center at help@colorado.edu or call 303-735-4357 (5-HELP from a campus phone).
