CULink - Configuring E-Mail Clients - Mac Mail for OS 10.6

Overview

This tutorial offers both "quick start" information as well as step-by-step instructions for how to configure Mac Mail to send and receive CULink e-mail messages. These instructions apply to all CULink e-mail users (faculty, staff, students, and sponsored affiliates).

Quick Start

Quick Start Configuration Settings

  • Incoming Mail Server
    • Type: IMAP
      • Host: culink.colorado.edu
      • SSL Enabled
      • Authentication: Password
      • Port: 993
    • User name: your CU Login name
    • Password: your IdentiKey password
    • Root Folder Path: INBOX
  • Outgoing Mail Server
    • Type: SMTP
    • Host: smtp.colorado.edu
      • SSL Enabled
      • Authentication: Password
      • Port: 25
    • User name: your CU Login name
    • Password: your IdentiKey password

Step 1

Note: if this is your first time loading Mac Mail, skip to Step 2.

If this isn't your first time opening Mac Mail, click the File drop-down menu.

Click Add Account to open the Account Setup Wizard.

Upon opening Mac Mail for the first time, the Welcome to Mail screen shoould appear to help you set up your account. (Note: if this isn't your first time opening Mac Mail, the same screen should appear.)

  • In the Full Name: text field, type in your full name.
  • In the Email Address: text field, enter your IdentiKey username.
  • In the Password: text field, enter your IdentiKey password then click Continue.

Step 3

In the Incoming Mail Server window, choose IMAP from the Account Type: drop-down menu.

Choose a Description to help you identify your CU e-mail account (for example, CULink).

In the Incoming Mail Server: text field, enter culink.colorado.edu.

In the User Name: text field, enter your CU login name.

In the Password: text field, enter your IdentiKey password.

Then, click Continue.

In the Outgoing Mail Server window, in the Description: text field enter a description for your outgoing mail server (for example, CULink Outgoing).

In the Outgoing Mail Server: text field enter smtp.colorado.edu.

Be sure to check the box next to Use only this server.

Click the Use Authentication check box.

In the User Name: text field, enter your CU login name.

In the Password: text field, enter your IdentiKey password.

Then, click Continue.

The Account Summary screen should appear. Check to make sure that all of the information was typed in correctly.

Check the box next to Take account online.

Then, click Create.

Click the Mail menu from the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

Next, click Preferences...

In the Email Address: field, change the e-mail to be your first.last@colorado.edu e-mail address.

Click the Save button.

In the Accounts window that opens, click the Advanced tab.

The Advanced settings window will open. Make the following changes:

  • Make sure both Enable this account and Include when automatically checking for new messages are checked.
  • Under the Keep copies of messages for offline viewing: drop-down menu, select All messages and their attachments so that you can download your messages and view them offline.

Step 13

If the settings shown here are not automatically entered by Mac Mail, then follow these instructions:

  • In the IMAP Path Prefix: text box, enter INBOX in all caps.
  • In the Port: text field, enter 993 and check the box next to Use SSL.
  • In the Authentication: drop-down menu, choose Password.

When you are finished making edits, close the window to save the changes you've made.

You can now begin using Mac Mail to send and receive CULink e-mail messages.
