Adobe recently announced that there will no longer be new versions of the Creative Suite products (i.e., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) offered through the traditional suite model. Rather, Adobe plans to transition to a monthly subscription model called Creative Cloud through which subscribers will get continuous, automatic updates to their Adobe Creative Cloud software as opposed to a new version every year or two. Previously, permanent licenses for Creative Suites or individual products could be purchased at the volume discount Cumulative Licensing Program (CLP) rates through e-Academy, GovConnection or Insight. The campus CLP has been renewed through June 2015 to allow purchases of certain Create Suite 6 (CS6) products through GovConnection or Insight.
The move to Creative Cloud is a universal change that affects all Adobe customers. As we currently understand it, here are the impacts of this change as they apply to our campus:
Adobe Creative Suite
The last retail version of Creative Suite is CS6 and it can be purchased from GovConnection via the CU M . Those who purchase CS6 permanent licenses will be able to use the software indefinitely, but will not get future version updates. Effective now, new Adobe Creative Suite applications (anything beyond CS6) will only be available through the Creative Cloud service offering.
Adobe Acrobat Pro
Though Acrobat Pro will be included in Creative Cloud plans, it will still be possible to purchase Acrobat Pro on its own and get updates without having to enroll in a Creative Cloud plan. Permanent licenses for the current release (Acrobat Pro 11) and upgrades will continue to be available for purchase through GovConnection and Insight at CLP rates.
Creative Cloud Subscriptions
Adobe licensing for individuals is now moving to Creative Cloud, where a subscription gives the user the most up-to-date (or any earlier) version of Adobe's products. Faculty, staff and students can subscribe for $360 per year. A special promotion makes it $240 for the first year for current Creative Suite users, if purchased by August 31, 2013. EEA -- Education Enterprise Agreement
This provides a 1-year or 2-year Creative Cloud group subscription rate for subgroups (such as departments, schools or colleges) to be licensed on a per-installation basis for university-owned computers. "Work-at-home" rights are not included. EEAs can be purchased from any Adobe resellers like Insight and GovConnection, but please inform OIT if you are doing so, to help coordinate future campus purchases. Concurrent licensing -- licensing by the number of computers simultaneously using the software -- is not an option with an EEA.
