Last Updated: 10/19/2012
Overview

In order to get the most out of the campus IT environment, you will need an e-mail account and an IdentiKey. OIT has created these for you, now you need to activate your IdentiKey.

Accounts

E-mail and Calendar Service

What is it:

  • Your @colorado.edu e-mail address and a collaborative calendar service.
  • Students receive an e-mail and calendar account through OIT's CULink service.

Who gets it:

  • All enrolled students.
  • Alumni that are E-mail For Life participants. Learn more about E-mail for Life.

Why you should use it:

  • E-mail is an official means of communication on the CU-Boulder campus. You will receive important information via e-mail from the university.

How to access it:

  • You'll use your IdentiKey to log in.
  • Click here to learn about accessing and using CULink.

When you get it:

  • CULink accounts are automatically created for students with active IdentiKeys and become active when a student is confirmed for an active term at CU-Boulder.

Manage it:

  • CU-Boulder's Identity Manager allows you to set how your outgoing e-mail address is displayed, create alternate addresses, and set your e-mail delivery location.
IdentiKey

What is it:

An IdentiKey consists of a CU login name and an IdentiKey password. IdentiKeys play a large role in computing at CU-Boulder. An IdentiKey gives you access to:

  • MyCUInfo, the student and faculty portal
  • My.CU, the employee portal
  • CUConnect, the legacy portal that still contains some tools and features
  • E-mail services like CULink and ITS's Microsoft Exchange service.
  • Computers in ITS computing labs.
  • UCB Wireless network.
  • CULearn, learning management program.
  • SkillSoft computer based training.
  • IdentiKey is managed with CU-Boulder's Identity Manager.

Learn more about IdentiKey, including how to activate at the IdentiKey page.

Who gets it:

  • All students. However, authorization to particular resources may change depending on your status with the university.

When you get it:

  • IdentiKeys are created when you are accepted to the University of Colorado Boulder. After being accepted, you can activate it.

Activate it:

  • Learn more about IdentiKey, including how to activate it at the IdentiKey page.

Manage it:

  • Once your account is activated you can use the services listed above. Use CU-Boulder's Identity Manager to change your password, or reset it if you've forgotten it.
Specialty Account Creation (SAC)

What is it:

Specialty Account Creation (SAC) is a web tool that students, faculty, and staff use to create specialty accounts on servers they have been granted access. These servers are not centrally managed by OIT, but by other departments.

Who gets to use the tool:

Only faculty, staff, or students that have been granted access by an administrator. If you are required to use a specialty account for a course or to access a specific resource, you will be instructed to do so. If not, this tool is not for you.

How to create your specialty account:

  • The Specialty Account Creation (SAC) tool is at https://sac.colorado.edu.
  • After selecting the host, you will enter your CU Login Name and IdentiKey password to create your account.
  • Your account's credentials will be the same as your IdentiKey, at the time of creation. If you ever change your IdentiKey password, you need to return to this tool and follow the steps above to synchronize your specialty account with your IdentiKey password.
