SHIP hosts a fantastic Dinner Series with the University's most interesting faculty sharing their international experience and research. Below are just a few of the many excellent SHIP presenters. Mary Ann Casey: Careers in the Foreign Service Ambassador
Mary Ann Casey has had a distinguished career in the U.S. State Department
as both a Foreign Service Officer and an Ambassador. Ambassador Casey
spent time in Tunisia and Algeria, among other countries. She was the
“Ambassador-in-Residence” at the University of Colorado in
1998. SHIP is happy to have such a prestigious speaker. Professor
Tom Zeiler of the History Department has a fascinating story to tell of
his time in Japan as a Fulbright Scholar. With his action-packed presentation,
you’ll learn how both professional and Little League baseball are
metaphors for international relations. Dr. Zeiler’s sense of humor
will entertain even non-sports fans for this informative lecture. Laura
DeLuca of the Anthropology Department has extensive experience in East
Africa and brings that perspective to her presentation. She is heavily
involved with the Sudanese refugee community in Boulder and motivates
students to get involved with refugee issues. Professor
Bert Covert of the Anthropology Department spends his summers researching
primate ecology and conservation in Vietnam and has the photos to prove
it! Dr. Covert’s slide show is an amazing look at the primates that
populate Vietnam. His research interests also include biological anthropology
and primate evolution. Professor
Dennis Van Gerven of the Anthropology Department is one of the most distinguished
professors at CU Boulder. He does world-class research and even brings
one of his research subjects with him to SHIP: an actual mummy from the
ancient region of Nubia! Dr. Van Gerven has won several teaching awards
so this program is not to be missed! |
