About OIE

The Office of International Education (OIE) serves the University of Colorado Boulder by:

  • promoting international and intercultural community and culture on campus
  • enriching the academic and cultural environment by facilitating the exchange of people and ideas
  • collaborating with faculty, staff, and students to make international opportunities accessible and sustainable

OIE brings CU to the world and the world to CU!


The primary sections of the Office of International Education are:

Global CU is responsible for guiding and assisting the campus with its global education endeavors. Their work includes:

  • developing, in conjunction with academic units, and maintaining institutional partnership agreements (e.g. exchange agreements, Memoranda of Understanding, dual degree agreements)
  • assisting academic units in developing new international partnerships
  • providing support for campus international initiatives (e.g. Fulbright opportunities)
  • providing administrative support for the Office of International Education

ISSS serves as host to students, staff and faculty from abroad and helps ensure their success. This includes:

  • providing advising, assistance, and logistical support for the University’s international students, scholars, and guests
  • advocating for and providing programming that furthers international understanding
  • promoting compliance with federal regulations governing nonimmigrants

SAP provides students with a comprehensive selection of academically-sound and experientially-rich study abroad programs that foster their personal development and prepare them to successfully engage in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world. Their work leads to the following outcomes:

  • SAP administers nearly 400 CU-Boulder-sponsored programs in more than 65 countries around the world.
  • Over 1,100 CU-Boulder students study on CU-Boulder programs annually.
  • Approximately one-quarter of CU-Boulder bachelor's degree recipients incorporate a study abroad program into the undergraduate degree.

OIE Mission Statement

The mission of the Office of International Education (OIE) is to actively promote international and intercultural understanding and to enrich the academic and cultural environment of CU-Boulder by facilitating the exchange of people and ideas.  OIE brings CU to the world and the world to CU.

OIE Vision Statement

The CU-Boulder community (students, faculty and staff) has a broader world view, has a richer understanding of other cultures, and is more tolerant of differences, as a result of the educational experiences offered by the Office of International Education.

International Partnerships

CU-Boulder partners with a number of institutions overseas on a variety of student exchange, and study abroad programs, as well as reciprocal agreements for research and degree programs.  Learn more >>
