The Office of
International Education welcomes International Education Week to
the CU-Boulder campus November 16th - 20th, 2009!
What is International Education Week (IEW)?
The founders of
International Education Week (US Department of State and the US
Department of Education) say this about the initiative they
established: "International Education Week is an opportunity to
celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange
worldwide. This joint initiative is part of our efforts to
promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment
and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and
exchange experiences in the United States."

Monday November 16th

- Panel Discussion: "Insider and Outsider Perceptions of Islam and
Muslims in Today's World"

Professor Frederick M. Denny will be moderating a panel comprised of CU-Boulder international and U.S. students.
Prof. Denny is an Emeritus Professor of Islamic Studies in the Department of Religious Studies at CU-Boulder. He has studied Islam in the United
States and abroad since the 1960s. He co-authored (with John Corrigan,
Carlos Eire, and Martin Jaffee) "Jews, Christians, Muslims: A Comparative
Introduction to Monotheistic Religions" (Prentice-Hall: 1998). His recent
research and writing have been principally on Islam and Muslims in the
contemporary world. His areas of interest encompass Qur'anic studies,
comparative ritual, Islamic education in Malaysia and Indonesia, and
Islam and Muslim communities in North America.

Meeting: Global Seminar: The Cradle of European Jewish
Culture in Venice, Italy

Peckerar of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures.

of the fall of the Berlin Wall. . .

CU-Boulder’s ATLAS Institute invites you to a talk
about the evolution of music, art and culture in Berlin
and its relationship to the Berlin reunification.
The talk is led by two of Berlin’s outstanding electronica
performers and composers, Peter Kuschnereit and René

University of Science and Technology) is an
international, graduate-level research university, in
Saudi Arabia, dedicated to inspiring a new age of
scientific achievement. A representative from KAUST will

unique approach to scientific research and have your

recognize Boulder’s “Global Citizens” and
"Champions of International Education" as well as winners of our International Education Photo Contest.

Grant - Information Meeting
7 pm Humanities 186 University of Colorado at Boulder
Come to an information meeting to learn how you too can apply
for a Fulbright grant. Fulbright awards are offered in more than
140 countries worldwide in nearly all fields and disciplines,
including the sciences, professional fields and the Creative and
Performing Arts. Please come to a Fulbright information meeting
presented by Roman Yavich, a Fulbright Alumni and CU-Boulder
graduate. Roman will discuss his year in Nicaragua researching
the sustainability of the tourism industry in Nicaragua and the
non profit organization he has established there. Sponsored by
the Office of International Education.

Ambassador Murad Askarov will speak about "Issues of Regional Security in Central Asia and Afghanistan: Uzbekistan's Perspective." A reception and authentic Uzbeki pilaf will follow.
