Funding Opportunities

FUNDING SOURCE IDENTIFICATION

There are hundreds of potential funding agencies involved in supporting research, training, construction, curriculum development, etc. to which the University of Colorado can and does submit proposals. Historically, federal government agencies have been the source of approximately 90% of UCB's sponsored project funds. Numerous other agencies--foundations, local and national corporations, state and local governments, foreign corporations and governments, etc.--are also potential sources of interest and funds for research and other projects.

OCG assists in the search for appropriate funding sources in several ways:

  • OCG continuously reviews numerous source materials for funding opportunity announcements and for new information about potential funding agencies and their programs, requirements, and deadlines.
  • OCG maintains a "Faculty Interest Profile" system which allows matching of individual faculty interests with funding opportunity announcements.
  • OCG subscribes to a national computerized funding opportunities data base through IRIS (link above), which allows campus personnel to perform computer searches, for potential funding sources specific to an individual's interests.
  • OCG continuously mails specific funding opportunity announcements to department chairs, institute directors, and individual faculty, as appropriate.
  • OCG personnel provide up-to-date information regarding deadlines, names, addresses, telephone numbers, and application forms.
  • OCG staff maintain a funding opportunity resource library that includes several standard directories of major funding sources and guides for proposal writing.
  • OCG personnel familiar with current and emerging contract and grant opportunities, relevant federal and state legislation, and other related matters provide personal assistance at OCG and are available to conduct workshops and help sessions for groups of faculty at individual department offices.
  • OCG has several video tapes offering suggestions on proposal writing, potential funding sources, and "grantsmanship" (these tapes include one of an OCG-sponsored workshop for science faculty and one of an OCG-sponsored workshop for arts and humanities faculty).
