Chawla
Kalpana Chawla, an astronaut-alumna of the University of Colorado at
Boulder, was among the astronauts aboard the Columbia Shuttle, which exploded
Saturday, Feb. 1. Dr. Chawla is the second CU-Boulder astronaut-alumnus
to perish in a shuttle explosion. The first was Ellison Onizuka, who died
when the Challenger Shuttle exploded in 1986.
Dr. Chawla received her doctor of philosophy degree in aerospace engineering
at CU-Boulder in 1988. The Columbia shuttle flight was her second space
