Academic advising: What's in it for me?

With the end of the semester and final exams right around the corner, it is a great time to think about how you can enhance your academic experience over the summer and to touch base with your academic advisor about your plans for next fall. Your advisor can help guide you toward courses, internships, research opportunities and much, much more.

Innovative programs transform undergraduate STEM courses

Caleb Ulliman’s father is an engineer and for a long time he thought he would become an engineer too, but that was before he took a 1-credit CU Teach course.

“One thing led to another, and all of a sudden I was headed down the path toward becoming a teacher,” he said. “That’s the case for a lot of people in CU Teach.”

Leeds class visits Warren Buffet

A group of 19 University of Colorado Boulder students and one faculty member recently received the chance of a lifetime to visit widely known philanthropist and investor Warren Buffet in Omaha, Neb. Several times a year, Buffet invites eight colleges with 20 representatives from each school to Omaha for a day of tours at his Berkshire Hathaway subsidiaries, lunch at one of Buffet’s favorite local restaurants, and a Q-and-A session. This year, CU-Boulder was on that list.

Climate zones will shift faster as climate warms, new study finds

As the planet warms, Earth’s climate zones are shifting at an accelerating pace, says a new study led by a scientist at the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, a joint venture between the University of Colorado Boulder and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Registration now open for Digital Media Boot Camp

The CU-Boulder ATLAS Digital Media Boot Camp, or DMBC 2013, a popular three-week digital media certificate program providing skill-sets to help you be competitive in today’s marketplace, is now open for registration.

Offered during Maymester (May 13-31), DMBC is an intensive introduction to digital media production that is designed to impart practical technological skills to people from any field or discipline. Learn to use industry standard technologies, applications, and tools to successfully communicate your ideas.

Sustainable Fair April 24

Spring 2013 Sustainable Commuter Fair rain date is April 24

Due to the current weather forecast and this week's weather, Parking & Transportation Services (PTS) has changed the date of the Spring 2013 Sustainable Commuter Fair to Wednesday, April 24 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Join us in the UMC Fountain area. Visit the PTS website for fair updates. 

Many organizations are ramping up in Boulder to encourage sustainable means of transportation by offering great incentives.

Campus construction activity ramping up for summer

To answer questions and address concerns about summer construction impacts, we will be hosting an informational table on Wednesday, April 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UMC next to Baby Doe’s. Stop by to ask questions, learn more about the projects, and share feedback.

Jam band Twiddle to play at CU April 25

The jam band Twiddle will play a free show during CU's Engineering Days on Thursday, April 25, at 7 p.m on the terrace area (near the buffalo statue) outside Folsom Field. Tickets are free, and there will be no re-entry to the terrace beginning at 7 p.m. Other activities begin at 3:30 p.m., and include free subs, vendors and "engineering magic."

Accepting Nominations for the Tito Torres Award

Know a student who has demonstrated passion for and commitment to social justice? The University of Colorado Chancellor’s Standing Committee on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues welcomes nominations for the 2013 Tito Torres Award, given annually to a student at CU who exemplifies the spirit of Tito Torres. Torres, as a CU student, impacted many through his commitment to and work toward social justice and uplifted many. Nominations due April 26, 2013.
