No plans for spring break? Try an alternative break

If you haven't made plans for spring break, it's not too late to try an alternative break. The Alternative Breaks Program, part of the CU Volunteer Resource Center, sends teams of college students to engage in community-based service projects across the country during each college break.

CU's Off-Campus Housing Fair to be held Jan. 30

CU’s annual Off-Campus Housing Fair (Jan. 30, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the UMC Glenn Miller Ballroom) offers students a convenient way to view hundreds of local properties. More than 50 local landlords, property managers and real estate agents will be in the UMC for the fair.

Free pizza will be served at noon and tons of giveaways also will be available. Off-Campus Housing will be giving one lucky student a 40” LED TV for his/her new rental.

Stalking Awareness Month

January is National Stalking Awareness Month.

About 6.6 million people are stalked each year in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

$2,500 scholarships available

If you are looking for scholarship opportunities, check out the CU Parents Association (CUPA) merit based, non-renewable scholarships worth $2,500 per year to continuing or transfer undergraduate students who will be sophomores, juniors or seniors for the 2013-14 academic year. Applicants must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA. The deadline is Thursday, March 14 at 5 p.m. and you must provide an official transcript, which can take 5-7 days to process.

You still have a chance to design the official 2013-14 "Shoulder to Shoulder" Spirit Shirt. Get your design entry in by Feb. 7.

Equity and Excellence Awards call for nominations

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement (ODECE) seeks nominations for the 28th Annual Equity and Excellence Awards. The award is designed to recognize students, staff and faculty who have successfully and effectively worked to promote the principles of diversity and inclusive excellence in teaching, learning, higher education program management, or leadership practices and execution. The recipients will be honored at the Equity and Excellence Celebration on Tuesday, April 23, in the Glenn Miller Ballroom.

The efforts of identity theft criminals stretch from digging through your trash for bank information to phishing for your passwords and far beyond. The good news is there are lots ways to protect your identity against this never-ending onslaught and the campus IT Security Awareness site offers a host of ways to do it.
