Veronica Vaida inducted into American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Veronica Vaida, a professor of chemistry and biochemistry and a fellow of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder, was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences this month.

She was elected to the academy in recognition of her exceptional achievements in scientific research. Among the other 218 new members elected this year were U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, actor and director Clint Eastwood, journalist Judy Woodruff and Amazon.com founder and chairman Jeff Bezos.

Pink Life Saver participates in free Boulder campus health screenings

The Be Colorado free and confidential health screenings return to the Boulder campus on Oct. 31 and Nov. 2, and this time they are bringing a special guest… a 38-foot-long “life saver” on wheels. Newly launched, the Pink Life Saver is a mobile mammography coach designed to travel throughout the metro Denver area.

The Importance of Emotions in the Classroom: Challenges and Opportunities

The classroom is an emotionally charged place. On the first day of class, both the instructor and students arrive to the classroom with a wide range of emotions that can either impair or enhance learning, depending on how they are managed. Fear is usually rampant. In this workshop we will explore how non-violent communication, humor and vulnerability transform the classroom into a powerful learning environment.

LEAP Faculty Workshop; Power Pointers: Constructive Conflict Management

The LEAP program invites you to join the Faculty Ombuds, Lee Potts and Emily Calhoun, in a discussion of necessary tools to use your power wisely in workplace conflicts. When professional relationships involve either formal or informal power differences, dealing with disagreements can be an especially complex process. This workshop will help faculty of all types respond constructively to challenging disputes.

nLab and New Venture Challenge kickoff Oct. 29

Monday, Oct. 29, marks the launch of the new cross-campus nLab for moving ideas into action and the kickoff to the fifth annual New Venture Challenge. 5th Annual Student Leadership Conference call for presenters

CU GOLD's 5th Annual Student Leadership Conference is now accepting applications for speakers and presenters. Our theme this year is "The Leading Edge" and we are looking for interactive presentations and workshops that fall into five categories: Technology, Environment, Social Justice, Entrepreneurship,or Communication.
