Over the last half-century, Scott Carpenter and the University of Colorado Boulder have been an integral part of the Space Age. We share Boulder's pride that he is one of our own. We take great honor that he is the first of 19 astronauts with CU-Boulder roots. Commander Carpenter’s association with CU has inspired us as national leaders in aerospace engineering and the space sciences.

Demand for CU-Boulder graduates continues to grow

Demand for University of Colorado Boulder graduates continues to grow, with the number of companies posting full-time jobs on the CU-Boulder campus jumping 28 percent in the 2011-12 school year, compared with pre-recession numbers in 2006.

The number of postings for part-time jobs also jumped, increasing 37 percent, while the number of internships for CU students increased by 50 percent.

CU professor co-founds new company to develop genetic heart disease treatment

A new biomedical company involving CU-Boulder, Stanford University and the Harvard Medical School has been launched with $38 million in financing from Third Rock Ventures LLC headquartered in Boston and San Francisco to develop therapeutic treatments for genetic heart diseases.

Goldberg redefining computer science education

BioFrontiers faculty member, Debra Goldberg, sees computer science as truly interdisciplinary. Goldberg is a computer scientist by training and a teacher at heart. One of her favorite classroom tactics? Silence, which grabs the attention of sleepy students and pulls them back into the discussion.

Family Weekend at CU-Boulder begins Sept. 28

Family Weekend begins Friday, Sept. 28, and includes a slate of on-campus events to showcase CU's programs, resources and faculty. More than 1,655 families are registered for the event hosted by the CU-Boulder Parents Association. There are a limited number of tickets remaining for walk-up registrations.

Human Resources Skills Development Workshops

Skills Development seminars are information-centered. The underlying objective for the instructor is to outline a prescribed way to complete a concrete task or adhere to specific policies. Seminars are generally under four hours in length. From learning how to create a respectful workplace and learning environment, to applying principled negotiation to workplace conflicts, these seminars provided by the Organizational and Employee Development, in collaboration with the Ombuds Office will provide new insights for work and home.

How to create community among participants in online courses

Sam Gill, Professor and Associate Chair Religious Studies, A major challenge of online courses arises in the obvious distance of the participants, students and faculty, from one another. How can online courses be developed and presented so that everyone feels some personal connection with one another through the term of the course? This ‘how to’ presentation will offer a number of examples and techniques that help to create community and even take advantage of the distance among participants.

Fall Career Fair brings over 150 companies to CU-Boulder campus

Don't miss the largest career fair of the fall semester. Companies like Shell, Lockheed Martin, Goldman Sachs, Brocade Communications, General Motors-IT and many more will be on the CU campus, Tuesday, Sept. 25 in the UMC (second floor) from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. This event is open and free to CU-Boulder students and alumni.

The Changing Energy Mix

The Changing Energy Mix, a half-day conference exploring some of the dramatic changes taking place in the energy sector, with particular attention to the U.S. electric power sector will be held Oct. 23 from 2:30 - 6:45 p.m. in the University of Colorado Law School, Room 101. FERC Commissioner Tony Clark will will close the conference with a keynote address.

The event is co-sponsored by The Getches-Wilkinson Center for Natural Resources, Energy, and the Environment.
