CU’s three ‘Rake’s’ mark world-first shared staging of art and music

The University of Colorado Boulder is hosting a world premiere shared staging of all three versions of William Hogarth’s “Rake’s Progress” in September and October. Exhibitions of the original Hogarth artwork and prints by David Hockney, as well as the staging of Stravinsky’s opera, will provide a multidisciplinary interpretation of this seminal work in Hogarth’s career.

Obama campaign draws 13,000 to Norlin Quad

The Obama for America campaign event on Sunday, Sept. 2 drew an estimated 13,000 attendees to hear the President’s address. Scheduled on Norlin Quad after an invitation from Students for Obama, the rally was coordinated and hosted by the campaign and did not constitute an endorsement of the Obama campaign by the University of Colorado or the Board of Regents. The rally featured CU students Brittni Hernandez, Sarah Andrews and Ryan Case.

CU-Boulder’s Student Involvement Week kicks off Sept. 4

Beginning Sept. 4, CU-Boulder will hold its annual Student Involvement Week, which includes a variety of events and fairs offering students information about different clubs and organizations on campus and in the greater Boulder community.

Campus Town Hall on concealed carry

As many of you are aware, the CU-Boulder campus is now covered by the Concealed Carry Act (CCA). While we have attempted to provide guidance on how the campus will comply with the CCA, there continue to be questions from faculty and staff alike on this important issue. Please join us in the UMC Aspen Rooms on Tuesday, Sept, 4, from 12 - 1 p.m. for a campus town hall. Members of the CU-Boulder administration, including Chancellor DiStefano, Provost Moore, Managing Senior Associate Counsel John Sleeman, and Commander Robert Axmacher from the CU Police Department will be present.

Global Citizen awards

The Office of International Education (OIE) is pleased to announce the OIE Global Citizen Awards to recognize outstanding contributions to international understanding by members of the UCB community. The following awards will be given to one individual each for 2012: Campus Global Citizen of the Year, Muneeb Kamal Int’l Student of the Year, and Study Abroad Student of the Year. College of Arts and Sciences Scholar Award announcement

The College of Arts and Sciences supports a program intended providing one semester College Scholar Awards to faculty enabling tenured faculty to pursue full time research/creative scholarly activities. These awards can be used in conjunction with a sabbatical (although sabbatical is not required). This program is funded through the generosity of donors to the College (ten awards this cycle). Proposals should be sent to electronically to Anna.Jensen@colorado.edu by noon on Thursday, Nov. 1. The committee will meet during the first week of December to decide awards.
