Daniel Sher to step down as dean of the College of Music

University of Colorado Boulder Provost Russell Moore announced on Thursday he has accepted the resignation of Daniel Sher as dean of the College of Music at CU-Boulder effective June 30, 2013.

What you should know about attending the President Obama campaign event

On Sunday, Sept. 2, President Obama will make a campaign stop at the University of Colorado Boulder’s Norlin Quadrangle. The Obama for America campaign has reserved the quad through the invitation of Students for Obama. The event is not sponsored by the University of Colorado Boulder administration or the University of Colorado Board of Regents, and should not be viewed as an endorsement of President Obama’s candidacy. NOAA selects CU-Boulder to continue joint leadership of CIRES

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has selected the University of Colorado Boulder to continue a federal/academic partnership that extends NOAA’s ability to study climate change, improve weather models and better predict how solar storms can disrupt communication and navigation technologies.

The selection means that NOAA will continue funding the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, or CIRES, for at least five years and up to 10 more years. CIRES was established at CU-Boulder in 1967.

Campus Town Hall on concealed carry

As many of you are aware, the CU-Boulder campus is now covered by the Concealed Carry Act (CCA). While we have attempted to provide guidance on how the campus will comply with the CCA, there continue to be questions from faculty and staff alike on this important issue. Please join us in the UMC Aspen Rooms on Tuesday, Sept, 4, from 12 - 1 p.m. for a campus town hall. Members of the CU-Boulder administration, including Chancellor DiStefano, Provost Moore, Managing Senior Associate Counsel John Sleeman, and Commander Robert Axmacher from the CU Police Department will be present.

Construction update: campus utility system

The first phase of construction on a campus utility system is beginning this week. Once complete in 2014, the system will provide efficient heating, cooling and power capacity, while significantly reducing the university’s carbon emissions. CSTPR 10th anniversary celebration

Please join the CIRES Center for Science and Technology Policy Research as we celebrate our 10th anniversary on Thursday, Sept. 27. This all-day event will include 4 panel discussions and will feature a keynote address by Dr. John Holdren, science advisor to President Barack Obama. All events will take place in the Old Main Auditorium on the CU-Boulder campus and are free and open to the public.
