Statement of University of Colorado Regent Jerry Rutledge sent at the request of Regent Rutledge

November 17, 2004

A story in the Rocky Mountain News today reports that an accounting firm hired by the attorney general raised questions about a transaction, allegedly between me and the Buffalo Football Technique School. This is not accurate.

There was a check for $10,000 from the Technique School made out to my clothing store, Rutledge's, not to me personally. I have a copy of the check.

This transaction was to pay for attire for members of the CU football coaching staff who were employees of the Technique School. The total for the purchases was $10,000. I also have copies of the receipts for the gift certificates that paid for the clothing.

The Technique School is a private entity not a University organization. This transaction between the Technique School and my store was for the purchase of clothing, which is the business of my store.

I value the University of Colorado. As a regent, my focus is to act in the best interest of the university. That has never wavered.
