Hoffman
February 2, 2004 -
As the president of the University of Colorado I was deeply concerned about February
2, 2004 headline in The Denver Post regarding the formation of an independent
investigative commission to examine our football recruiting policies.
The headline was inaccurate and misleading as a description of what
I said. I have drawn no conclusions about the legal and civil outcomes
of the events on
December 7, 2001 and to do so would have been completely inappropriate and
unprofessional.
There are ongoing investigations into these matters; therefore it is
critical not to compromise the integrity of the investigative processes.
My job as
a university president is to ensure the highest moral and ethical standards
on and off the
football field.
I am speaking with the CU Board of Regents, members of the Colorado
legislature and the executive branch as well as various experts in sexual
harassment
and assault, alcohol abuse and football recruiting, to discuss potential
leaders
of the independent investigative team.
