Statement by CU President Elizabeth Hoffman and CU-Boulder Chancellor Richard Byyny

February 23, 2004

How our students are feeling about the university’s work to deal with the issues we are facing is very important to us.

The Chancellor, Vice Chancellor for student affairs for the Boulder campus and I listened to the students’ concerns.

In response to their concerns, the Chancellor’s office has agreed to work with the students so they can share their concerns and insights with the independent investigative committee.

As we have said, the ultimate goal for the Chancellor and me is to create a safe environment for all students – on and off campus.

As for the concerns about the make-up of the panel, we firmly believe that the Board of Regents created a fair process to choose a diverse panel.

It is a panel of very distinguished members of the community and we entrust that they will help us get to the root of the issues.

We must have a process to get the facts. Once we get the facts we are committed to fix any problems that are determined to exist.
