Statement by Interim Chancellor
Phil DiStefano Regarding Racist Email Incident
Nov. 16 , 2005
I am extremely disturbed to learn of
a racist message emailed recently to one
of our student leaders at CU-Boulder.
Such hate-filled words do not reflect
the values of this campus community. When
any member is attacked with such a vicious
message, we all are attacked.
The university has launched a full investigation,
utilizing all available technological
advances, to identify the sender of this
message. If the sender is found to be
a student, he or she will be subject to
our disciplinary process through the Office
of Judicial Affairs, as well as any appropriate
criminal justice outcomes.
We urge anyone with information about
this incident to contact the University
of Colorado Police Department at (303)
492-8168.
In the meantime, we offer our support
and numerous campus resources to anyone
impacted by this disturbing incident,
including the victim. We will not be deterred
in our efforts to build a welcoming and
supportive environment for all members
of the campus community.
