Administrative Response To Racial Incidents: Message
From Christine Yoshinaga-Itano, Vice Provost And Associate Vice Chancellor
For Diversity And Equity
April 15, 2005
In recent months, our Campus has suffered a disturbing number of racially
motivated incidents. As a community, we struggle both to understand
and respond effectively to these demeaning and hateful incidents. Acts
of hate and intolerance are perpetrated by a small group of people and
we as a University community will not tolerate this type of behavior.
You may be wondering what you can do to support each other and the students,
as well as what the Campus is doing to improve the climate. Issues
of Racial Intolerance provides information on this issue, including
helpful resources and an explanation of strategies that have recently
been developed.
The specific list of strategies can been found in Summary
Of Strategies For Improving The Campus Climate For Students Of Color.
In his InsideCU article, Rebuilding
Our Community, the Chancellor addressed the situation and also reviewed
the initiatives to address climate issues on our campus.
If you witness any incidents, please report them immediately:
Please let our students know that you are there to support them. As
the Chancellor said, We need everyone's help to ensure a safe
and welcoming environment at CU-Boulder. If you have questions
or concerns, please contact the Office
of Diversity and Equity at 303-735-1332. Thank you for your attention
to this serious matter.
