CU-Boulder Statements Regarding Student Assault Arrest
July 6, 2005
Statement By Interim Chancellor Phil DiStefano
The Boulder campus greatly appreciates the commitment and hard work of the Boulder Police Department in its investigation of the recent assault on one of our students. We also are gratified by the outpouring of support from the campus and Boulder County communities for the victim and for law enforcement efforts to identify the perpetrator.
Statement By Derrick Watson, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration
(Note: Derrick Watson helped coordinate campus efforts to increase the reward for information in this case.)
I want to thank the citizens of Boulder County for their concern about the Andrew Sterling incident. I have personally received numerous calls from community members who expressed outrage over such a deplorable act. In addition, I would like to express my gratitude to the Shoulder2Shoulder organization, which has played a key role in bringing attention to the issue of racist incidents. This group is actively forging partnerships within our community to help prevent intolerable actions like this from happening again.
