Statement on the Fermionic Condensate from Carl Wieman
Nobel laureate, distinguished professor of physics at CU-Boulder and fellow of JILA

This is a spectacular piece of physics. Physicists started seeking this exotic kind of BEC almost as soon as we got BEC back in 1995. Debbie's experimental work of a few years ago and the theoretical predictions of CU physics Professor Murray Holland inspired a number of high-powered groups from all over the world to start racing to achieve this prize.

It has become a very hot race in the past year, but Debbie, Cindy, and Markus managed to pull away in the home stretch, as it were, by working very hard and coming up with one final brilliant idea to push across the finish line.
