CU-Boulder Statement Regarding Supplement To Referral In Churchill Review
June 15, 2005
CU-Boulder Interim Chancellor Phil DiStefano has asked the Standing Committee on Research Misconduct to extend its work in order to consider additional allegations concerning Professor Ward Churchill. The additional allegations were reported in a recent series of articles by the Rocky Mountain News.
In a letter to the committee on June 13, Chancellor DiStefano said he wished to supplement his original March 29 referral by asking the panel to include the new allegations in its inquiry and to determine whether they warrant investigation. Chancellor DiStefano noted that he had not investigated the new charges concerning copyright law, fabrication and plagiarism, among others, and could therefore offer no opinion on their validity.
The preliminary inquiry phase of the case is expected to be extended by up to 60 days in order to accommodate the supplementary referral.
Because of confidentiality requirements related to personnel matters and the rules of the Standing Committee, the university will not be able to comment further on this supplementary referral.
