ATLAS Fact Sheet

ATLAS' two-story, 2,700-square-foot black box performance space is available to students and faculty for creative digital cinema, interdisciplinary performances that combine musicians, dancers, visual artists and technology, visiting artist Web casts, interactive audio and visual performances, and student and faculty video production. In this state-of-the art environment, students and faculty can seamlessly merge creative endeavors with the latest in digital technology.

Technical Features:

  • The black box is home to one permanent and six portable high-end projectors, chroma-key and full black-out production environments, a fully controllable saturated lighting rig affixed to a wire grid about 20 feet above the performance floor, and dual 360-degree tracked curtains.
  • The black box is fully soundproofed, offers multi-track recording and is HD-TV capable.
  • A cyclorama makes "infinite space" scene compositions possible in the black box.
  • Both wireless and wired broadband Internet access is available throughout the black box.
  • Additional production space is available in a second 1,000-square-foot studio. As with the black box, the second studio has full chroma-key and black-out environments and a complete suite of SD-TV broadcast appliances. It is fully soundproofed and professionally lit with both automated and fine manual controls. Sets supporting any number of storyboards can be easily moved in and out of the facility.
  • Both studios serve double-duty as fully soundproofed audio recording facilities, sharing a ProTools audio production system and the hardware and software necessary to digitally record, "sweeten," edit and process all forms of audio content.
  • Complimenting the black box and broadcast studios is a ProTools equipped voice-over booth. From a segregated control space, readings can be multi-tracked and delivered in a variety of formats, including DAT, Mini-Disk and CD.
  • All ATLAS production and control facilities are linked with intercom and closed-circuit video monitoring to ensure seamless communication.
  • A "green room," adjacent to both performance studios, is furnished to provide performers with all necessary off-stage comforts.
