George Born, professor of Aerospace Engineering Sciences at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has been recognized for his career achievement by the American Astronautical Society, the premier American scientific and technical group dedicated to the advancement of space science and exploration

Professor Born received the Dirk Brouwer Award, which honors significant technical contributions to space flight mechanics and astrodynamics, at the organization's national conference and 45th annual meeting, held Nov. 17-19, in Houston.

Jean Kim, vice chancellor for student affairs at CU-Boulder, announced her resignation today, citing her desire to spend more time with her family and expand her successful part-time consulting practice.

Kim will leave her post on May 15th, 1999, to focus on her consulting career, which involves work with Fortune 500 companies primarily in the areas of leadership development, diverse workforce enhancement and strategic organizational development.

The presentation, which is free and open to the public, is in the grand ballroom of the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver.

University of Colorado basketball fans can help needy children in Boulder County this holiday season by donating toys at upcoming men’s and women’s games.

The Nov. 28 women’s games and Dec. 5 men’s game will host a toy drive to benefit the Toys for Tots program. Donations of new, unwrapped toys will be accepted at the door.

CU-Boulder physics instructor Michael Dubson will use exciting visual displays to explain several scientific phenomena including sonic booms, sound and the Bernoulli Principle.

Research into the environmental fate of aircraft deicing fluids under way at the University of Colorado at Boulder may result in new state limits on the discharge of deicing chemicals from Denver International Airport.

Unless specially collected in a storm water system, deicing waste is discharged directly into the environment, contaminating soils and threatening aquatic life. Recent surveys showed that often less than 50 percent of deicing fluids applied to aircraft are recovered and treated.
