The University of Colorado Board of Regents on Tuesday, April 9, voted to increase tuition at each of CU-Boulder’s campuses for the 2013-14 academic year. The following fact sheet explains how tuition functions to fund the university’s main academic mission and offers some explanations on commonly asked questions about tuition and CU finances.

For the first time, scientists have been able to predict how much pain people are feeling by looking at images of their brains, according to a new study led by the University of Colorado Boulder.

The University of Colorado Boulder will remain open on Tuesday, April 9 with classes and events held as scheduled.

Snowfall in Boulder was lighter than predicted and roads leading to the CU-Boulder campus are passable with public transportation running. Facilities management crews are working to clear parking lots and sidewalks on campus.

Clouds over the central Greenland Ice Sheet last July were “just right” for driving surface temperatures there above the melting point, according to a new study by scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the universities of Wisconsin, Idaho and Colorado. The study, published April 3, 2013 in Nature, found that thin, low-lying clouds allowed the sun’s energy to pass through and warm the surface of the ice, while at the same time trapping heat near the surface of the ice cap. This combination played a significant role in last summer's record-breaking melt.

The University of Colorado Boulder’s annual Conference on World Affairs returns to campus for the 65th time April 8-12, featuring 200 panel discussions, performances and plenaries.  Over 100 participants from around the country and the globe will pay their own way to travel to Boulder to present in what Roger Ebert has dubbed “the Conference on Everything Conceivable.”

The University of Colorado Technology Transfer Office is presenting awards April 1 to university researchers and companies representing best practices in the commercialization of university technologies.

 The TTO will present the Boulder campus awards to four researchers and one startup company during its annual Entrepreneurship Under the Microscope event, a celebration of campus entrepreneurship co-hosted with CU-Boulder’s Deming Center for Entrepreneurship.

Following today's U.S. Supreme Court decision declining to hear an appeal from former CU faculty member Ward Churchill, CU President Bruce D. Benson and CU-Boulder Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano issued a joint statement, saying in part, "The Supreme Court’s decision upholds a unanimous line of rulings from the Colorado courts determining that the university has the right and obligation to ensure high professional standards from its faculty." University of Colorado Board of Regents Chair Michael Carrigan also issued a statement on the court's decision.
