William “Bill” Haverly, who has more than 20 years of building and planning experience in higher education, has been named campus architect and director of planning, design and construction in the Department of Facilities Management at the University of Colorado Boulder.
Haverly, whose appointment begins March 3, will head a department with an operating budget of nearly $5 million and management responsibility for a five-year capital plan totaling more than $750 million. He will be responsible for the conceptual planning, design, engineering and construction of all capital and noncapital projects for the 11 million-square-foot campus, including more than 350 open projects at any one time.
“This is an especially exciting time for CU-Boulder and we welcome Bill to our team,” said Steve Thweatt, assistant vice chancellor for facilities management. “He brings a wealth of experience with him in campus planning and capital project implementation and will be well positioned to implement the excellent campus planning that was provided by his predecessor, Paul Leef.”
Haverly comes to CU-Boulder from the University System of New Hampshire where, as director of capital planning and development, he oversaw planning, design and construction for all four USNH campuses. Before that he served as a project manager at the State University of New York (SUNY), managing design and construction for five state-operated SUNY campuses as well as for 30 community colleges. He also has experience in private practice as a project architect and architectural designer.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental design in architecture from North Carolina State University.
