Students from the real estate program at the Leeds School of Business, University of Colorado Boulder, successfully made the sale to a panel of judges and became grand-prize winners of the 2013 International Real Estate Case Competition hosted by the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
Leeds students competed against eight other teams representing schools from around the world during the week-long event. Competitors received a case study assignment to consider on April 15 and were given four days to submit their proposals. On the final day, teams gathered at USC to make their formal presentations to the judges.
Results of the case competition were announced during an awards luncheon on April 19. The winning team from Leeds includes Carly Beetham, Erin Everett, Jack Krowl, Kyle Kite, Sam Makings and Tommy Shabinsky.
“The students have been working hard all semester on their analytical and presentation skills,” says Thomas Thibodeau, professor of finance and academic director of the CU Real Estate Center. “We thank everyone who helped prepare the students for this year’s competition, including Leeds alumni who competed in past competitions and local industry professionals.”
The other teams taking part in the competition represented USC, the University of San Diego, the University of Texas, the University of Wisconsin, Villanova University, New York University, Ohio State University, and National University of Singapore.
The annual USC Marshall School of Business International Real Estate Case Competition is open by invitation to colleges and universities with undergraduate business real estate programs. Participating teams compete for cash prizes in oral and written presentation that address a real-world real estate problem posed by leading industry practitioners.
